Bringing Kurt home

Logan crouched on a log, sniffing the air as he also listened carefully to the woods around him. He moved with great purpose, a hunter on the trail and the importance of his prey showed in his body and actions as he tracked through the forest.

The air was cool and he felt the breeze touch against his skin and become a little chilly against the damp spot on his shoulder. Kitty had cried, enough to soak his shirt through and she was crying about Kurt. She was worried, frightened even about him and what he was becoming. The boy had made so much progress and now it was rapidly fading away and he was quickly reverting.

And Kitty was blaiming herself. Logan couldn't have that, he wouldn't allow Kitty to become unhappy again and he wouldn't let the Elf lose himself. So he was out here searching with the intention of bringing him back, both home and back to himself.

Kurt, at the moment, had taken up residence under a tree, curled up tight as he slept. The blood drying on his fur was still, for the most part, fresh...as was the bit that trailed down his lip a little. And there was the rabbit corpse a while away, mostly no longer existent.

All in all, it was something of a disturbing scene.

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Logan wrinkled his nose at the smell of blood and approached carefully. He didn't want Kurt to bolt, that would make this a lot more harder and annoying than it had to be. So he approached quietly but with enough noise to let the elf know he was there. "Kurt, hey kid wake up..."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
The elf wasn't in a deep enough sleep that the noise Logan made during his approach could be missed. His eyes opened slowly, and he sat up, looking blearily around him. And then he noted Logan...for the moment, the look in his eyes were much more animal than human. Still, there was enough recognition for a nervous, near frightened hint of the human below all of that..."L...logan?"

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
And seeing Kurt's state Logan made sure his body language wasn't going to screw things up. He kept his stance easy and though he locked his eyes on the elf his gaze wasn't threatening. "Yeah. Come on elf, I'm here ta take you home."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
And there was a long moment that Kurt was quite convinced that he should run. Running was a very, very good idea, actually. He was caught...and nothing good could come of this. Nothing at all.

But...well...he'd never made a very good wild animal. And he loped towards Logan, head down and humbled. "Yes, sir..."

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Logan watched Kurt's actions and felt his hairs rise and growled despite himself. This wasn't the way a person should act. Especially not someone as good a person as Kurt was.

He quieted himself and started walking, hoping that this could be fixed back at the mansion. "Kurt...stand up kid."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
But even domesticated animals had their limits. One couldn't very well ask a dog to walk upright...and Logan got a look that said just that, complete with a slight shake of the head, as he crouched lower to the ground, walking a bit faster.

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
And Logan growled again, having to look away from Kurt to stifle it. He continued walking and made no further requests, just trying to get Kurt back where he'd be brought out of this.

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Kurt cringed sharply at the growl...but slinked on, increasing the distance between himself and Logan a bit, but staying in what could be loosely termed nearby.

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Logan kept close track of Kurt as he led the way back to the mansion, not wanting to lose him or have him run. Finally he couldn't handle it anymore and had to ask, "Kurt, what's goin on with you?"

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Erm..." It took a great deal of will to turn his eyes to Logan at the question, even more to force the reply..."Wh-what do you mean?"

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
He bit back an angry reply and gestured to Kurt. "I mean this. Runnin off to the woods, eatin critters and slinking around like a damn animal."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." he murmured as if it wasn't completely obvious. "Well...I'm not entirely sure." The answer was all too civilized, given the soft trail of blood still drying along his chin. "I might as well be part animal, with my mutation. I suppose it's just another side of me." Still, it was obvious enough from the way his face twisted at the answer that he hardly liked it...

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
"An yer gonna let this side rule out the rest?" He asked shaking his head.

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I..." he hesistated on that note, before finally answering, "I don't know...I...I suppose I've spent all this time trying to be human, and that...I'm just not good at being human." He sighed softly. "And trying to be both doesn't even make sense...why not this side, if none of the others work out?"

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who says?" Was Logan's reply, a bit harshly said as he tried to make Kurt see he was wrong about himself. "Kid you've come along to be one a the most decent folks I know. Ain't just me neither, Kitty thinks loads of you an right now you got her worried bout you too no end. So, who says? You?"

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-01 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Ja, me." he admitted after a bit of hesistation. "It's just that...being human is rough. Just having to talk is harder than I ever thought it would be...just having to purr or nuzzle or whimper gets the same message across and there's no worry over whether you're saying something that will help or hurt because the words don't sound right..."

And then he sighed heavily, shame evident on his face. "And I know that taking the easy way out's no excuse for all this...especially not for worrying Kitty...but, it's easy to say something like that, and a lot harder to do."

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, an its also a hell of a lot easier for people to abuse an take advantage of you too when you ain't got nothin but growlin an snappin to respond with." Logan replied. "Why the hell do you think they didn't want you to talk back in the cages huh? People got words an ways of expressin themselves that no animal can. You give up your words an there's no way of sharin with others how your feelin, what you want or what you think."

He stopped walking a moment and shook his head, "Bein human ain't easy kid. But trust me, bein an animals a hell of a lot worse. You become an animal all you got is instinct, you lose yourself."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I know..." Kurt sighed softly, stopping along with Logan..."And I didn't want to be all animal...I just suppose I decided I wanted to have more of an animal side and sort of...lost myself from there."

"I..." And the shame playing on his face increased even more now..."Sort of supposed that, since being a wild animal wouldn't work, the human and animal would balance out if I functioned more like a...well...a domesticated one, I guess..."

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That line of thought from Kurt caused Logan's temper to flare again but he held it in check. Kurt was obviously lost and confused, he needed help not angry words. "Well...you sure don't make a good wild animal. I tracked an coulda snuck up on ya easy enough. An that rabbit you gnawed on wouldn't satisfy anything bigger'n a bird but...Kurt, bein a pet is still bein a slave. Just a pampered one. Ya need to learn how to get on on your own."

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I know." he repeated, hanging his head now. "I know it wasn't a reasonable thing to do, or a smart one, or anything like that...it was just easy at the time and now...making the animal side of me stay out of my head as much is..." He hesistated, thinking of how to phrase it, before giving up and stating simply, "Hard."

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"I know it is kid." Logan said quietly, "But yer gonna have help with it." Then he started walking again, still making sure Kurt was following but not so much afraid he'd run anymore.

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"...Ja." the Elf nodded softly, keeping stride with Logan, but not moving from his low-to-the-ground position...

[identity profile] adamantine-past.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Logan was silent the rest of the way back. Taking Kurt straight in and to find Kitty.

[identity profile] servant-elf.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And Kurt followed silently as well, not eager to bring back up conversation in the least...
